6 Ways To Reduce or Eliminate Foot Pain (for good)
As a Massage Therapist one of the most common things I see is foot pain. Plantar Fasciitis, joint and toe issues, high arches, low arches, tightness, backaches (often the feet are the culprit!) are just a few in particular.
What causes foot pain, including plantar fasciitis, and how do we help it go away for good?
This article covers 6 ways that you can address and heal foot pain including 2 ways in particular you may not have considered…
With massage, I work with the physical body, well, physically. But with everything I’ve studied and seen with my client’s transformations through PSYCH-K and Energy Work it can be hard to focus just on the body when often there is a deeper emotional reason. This article will go over 6 ways you can work towards healing your foot pain.
Follow your intution for which one to go with, or browse through and try them ALL. Often it can be a combination of a few things leading to our pain.
Inflammation. —> Plantar Fasciitis
Hot and fiery, swollen and puffy. Painful. Believe it or not inflammation is a great thing! It causes an abundance of white blood cells to gather and heal an area of the body when there is an imbalance. A beautiful design.
Here’s where it’s less beautiful: If we have too much inflammation. When the inflammation itself IS the imbalance. With plantar fasciitis this is what’s happening. There is inflammation in the fascia of your foot, causing an immense amount of pain when you walk and stand. A largely overlooked reason for this (or any) extra inflammation is: sugars.
It may not sound plausible that what you’re eating is causing you foot pain!? But it’s true. Sugar is known to add extra inflammation in the body, a lot more. This can impact your plantar fasciitis as well as inflammation in other areas including in your brain, impacting mental health. One of the simplest ways to help an inflammatory disorder is by eliminating processed sugars and extra starches. It’s easier than you may imagine! (*trust me, as a former cookie addict) This Ebook has 27 Fantastic Recipes to get you started, and you can download this Free Copy of 65 Names of Sugar so you know what to look out for when shopping. 2. Strength
Or lack thereof. Look I believe shoes were a GREAT Invention. Obviously. But how can it be that our most needed muscles for movement and stability.. are doing their best by being caged (often smushed) and padded?
Have you been to yoga and tried a balancing pose where your foot cramped? Or found it VERY difficult to walk across soft sand? Or maybe… you just experience general foot, leg, or back pain?
This could be caused by a lack of strength through the muscles of the lower legs and feet. Walking barefoot is a GREAT fix for this. But if your pain is already too severe and you now experience needing the padding of shoes (or life requires shoes), try these exercises to help strengthen your feet. Think of a building: without a proper foundation, the rest crumbles. Our feet are our FOUNDATIONS that we stand and move from. Treat them well. If you want to find a shoe that is more supportive towards healthy foot function, try this brand, plus when you purchase through this link you’ll get 15% off. They are cute, protective, and they let your feet be feet! Your whole body will thank you.
3. Stretch + a Fun Self Massage
Whether your muscles are strong enough or not, we can experience tightness. This could be from plantar fasciitis, from strength building, from walking in the wrong shoes, on too hard of surfaces, or even from stress in the body. There are a number of reasons. Grab a tennis ball if you have one and Practice along with this short video on YouTube designed to help your feet feel better immediately.
4. Shoes.
We talked about this briefly in no. 2 above but it deserves it’s own spot.
If you were building a lego tower with your child, you’d get to watch them experince needing a strong base or foundation if they wanted their building to be sturdy. If you were building a swingset you’d definitely want a strong base so it didn’t fall apart and cause injury. Any thing that is offering phyiscal support is the same. You NEED a strong foundation.
While shoes may seem like a great way to get this, in reality - they hinder your natural ability to let your feet muscles be your foundation. Our feet are supposed to be a bit wide, you can see on this amazing account by Physical Therapist Michelle that our feet actually CHANGE SHAPE when we strengthen them properly.
Shoes (*the wrong shoes) limit this from happening. Let high heels or narrow toe boxes be a thing of your past. There are coutless brands that offer supet cute and protective shoes while still allowing your feet to operate as they were designed. My favorite is Vivobare. but google barefoot shoes and you’ll get an idea. (If you are trying vivobare, use this link to make sure you get 15% off)
When the toebox is narrow it can lead to very painful bunions and brusitis too, but this can be changed. There is nothing our bodies aren’t capable of.
Speaking of possibility:
5. Emotion.
Emotion is energy in motion. When we experience an emotion, it quite literally moves though our body. This is why we can feel sadness in our chest or throat. We may feel anxiety in the pit of our stomach. Or excitement as if it’s lifting our body off the ground. Here’s how it relates to Feet:
If we don’t allow ourselves to fully feel emotions, they can get stored. Depending on what caused the emotion or what emotion it is, it can get stored in different areas of the body.
The feet are very telling. Since they quite literally move us forward. Foot pain can indicate there is a situation in your life that you are unsure about (ie. you’re not sure where your career or relationship is headed) which subconsciously prevents you from wanting to move forward in life. Our mind is designed to keep us safe. Our spirit is designed to grow! These contrast each other in the beautiful harmony of life.
When we are resisting change, when we are not looking forward to the future, if we are in a bad relationship that we know we should get out of… emotionally we won’t want to “move forward” — this can cause stress in body which tightens the feet muscles making it difficult to walk.
Is there something going on you’re avoiding or not wanting to happen? Something in your future you’re feeling anxious about?
During my last breakup I broke my toes!! I was feeling insecure and uncertain of my future and my body reflected that. Or take my client who came to me with a broken foot and chronic plantar fasciitis. She was in a relationship that she knew she needed to end but was putting it off from fear. Her body also was stopping her from “moving forward”. Both of us had lingering foot pain until we had healed from those relationships. When the heart heals.. the body heals.
6. Belief
The power of belief is getting more scientific studies behind it which is facinating. I love Bruce Liptons work on how our Subconscious Beliefs change us down to the cellular level. Meaning the body we are living in… is based on our belief.
Since we know emotion can be stored in the body, and we know certain emotions can manifest pain or illness in certain spots… therefore it makes sense that we can effect change in the physical body from healing the emotional pain, but from BELIEVING we are able to heal. The woman I originally learned PSYCH-K from had arthritis in both her knees, after doing a few belief balances around the emotional message behind AND beliefs around believing her knees were healthy and felt good: They did. Her pain went away.
Or take my client who came to me for ankle pain and after a one PSYCH-K session, her pain was reduced by 90%, and completely gone within 2 weeks. She writes: “After one session my pain was 90% gone, and now, two weeks later the pain is completely gone. To replace the pain, I’m now on a journey to be kinder to myself, something that I didn’t realize was causing me physical pain.”
I mention this because after offering 10,000+ massages, with clients who need the same pains worked on month after month, I’ve noticed such a fast and remarkable turn around in their pain if we do just a few PSYCH-K balances.
Belief is powerful. Emotions are powerful! Emotions are a good thing, but often… they are what we need to heal in order to allow the physcial aspect to heal naturally.
